Summary
International standards for power generating equipment follow the logic of standardization systems, while requirements for specific equipment serve to complement the more general requirements. For a specific application, this is their advantage and disadvantage. No single document exists to fully cover the requirements that customers and manufacturers need. When used for technical proposals and contracts, they require the use of a large number of standards, which is inconvenient for both manufacturers and customers.

Grid of the Russian Federation [1, 2], including the reliability and operational stability requirements defined by the grid operator (System Operator of the United Power System JSC).
When international standards are adopted as national standards, coherence with the existing national standards may be lost. One example of such ill-conceived application of international standards is the introduction of GOST IEC 60034-3-2015 standards as an intergovernmental standard identical to IEC 60034-3:2020 [3].
To improve the situation with respect to requirements for turbogenerators, TC 333 Rotating
Electrical Machines, a technical committee of Rosstandard, decided to develop a new national standard that would define extended technical specifications for turbogenerators covering both international and domestic requirements for these machines.
In accordance with the Russian National Standardization Program for 2022/23, Rosstandard’s
Technical Committee TC 333 prepared and adopted a new standard, GOST R 70940–2023[4].
Rotating electrical machines. Turbogenerators. General Specifications. This paper highlights the key features of the newly introduced Standard and looks into how it corresponds to the requirements of IEC 60034-3 and IEEE C50.13 [5] international standards.
