Summary
The goal of this paper is to consider the scope of requirements for brushless exciter (TKJ) designed and manufactured by Arabelle Solutions– AS (EDF group) and supplied with Turbine
Read more Read lessTechnologies AAEM to Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) (first Nuclear Build under construction in Turkey with four turbine generator units) including Turkish grid code, international IEC standards, Russian GOST standards, regional seismic and climatic requirements, Russian nuclear codes, to describe how the requirements influence on design of the brushless exciter developed and manufactured for this power plant and give the results of testing the exciter for the first unit. The paper will also introduce readers to unique technical solutions and design features of this type of machines. The main design parameters of the exciter correspond to the GIGATOP 4-pole type turbogenerators of 1200 MW class designed for the power plant [1].
Special attention was given to the following project considerations:
− The grid operator's requirements applicable to nuclear power plants for the reactive power generated and consumed at the grid connection point, response time of the − −
−
−
− excitation system, grid operator’s approval of the features of the highest power generator equipment connected to the grid
Specific aspects of design review and acceptance in line with the requirements of the
Russian codes and standards applicable to the use of nuclear power. In the project, the turbogenerator, exciter and AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) system are assigned
Safety Class 3 as per the Russian Nuclear Code NP-001 (equipment important to nuclear safety)
The seismic conditions of the construction site Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) with a magnitude of MSK8 on the Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik scale (MSK-64) considering the response spectra at the turbogenerator installation level in the turbine building)
The requirements of the plant general designer for a field forcing ratio of 2 p.u. within a period of 10 s
Equipment design for tropical climate
Service life: 60 years. The paper lists the Russian codes and standards in the field of nuclear energy applicable to the
Akkuyu NPP turbogenerator’s exciter as a piece of equipment important for NPP safety and assigned quality assurance category (QA3) and explains how the requirements are applied during the project execution.
A specific chapter of the paper describes unique conditions of the TKJ type brushless exciters factory tests, features of factory test bench equipment, results of tests both at different steps of manufacturing of the exciter separate parts and at the factory test bench after its full assembly.
