Summary
As part of ongoing work with CIGRE WG A2.73, a task force focused on data templating was established. The task force aims to propose a comprehensive data model, framework and template for the digital capture, manipulation and sharing of transformer information. Currently, the digital exchange of transformer data lacks a standardized format, forcing stakeholders to manually migrate information from internal templates into unstructured Word or PDF documents. This lack of standardization has reached a strategic tipping point. Without a standardized protocol, data integrity is compromised by human error during manual transcription, potentially leading to flawed diagnostic models and undetected catastrophic failures. Furthermore, the lack of interoperability creates significant vendor lock-in and drastically increases the integration costs for multi-vendor fleets. The absence of a common digital language prevents the automation of large-scale fleet management, limiting the ability of organizations to optimize the service life and performance of their most critical and capital-intensive assets.

Key features include interoperability, version control, extensibility, partial human readability and applicability across different transformer types. The advantages and limitations of alternative approaches to transformer information digitalisation are discussed. The suggested schema enables extensibility without schema modification, allowing new parameters, operating conditions, or system properties to be added as transformer technology, monitoring practices, and digital-twin methodologies evolve.
