This paper summarizes the work performed by the WG B5.82 titled “Education, Qualification and Continuing Professional Development of Engineers in Protection, Automation and Control” as it relates to the issue of Knowledge Management (KM) requirements. The paper addresses the expansion of the knowledge base that Protection, Automation and Control (PAC) engineers need to master in comparison with the time when similar assessment was made in the previous

WG report on the similar subject published in 2014 titled “Education, Qualification and

Continuing Professional Development of Engineers in Protection and Control,” Technical

Brochure, 599. The paper highlights selected topics from the WGB5.82 TB by first addressing the new KM drivers. Then, it elaborates on educational enhancements needed across different levels/forms of education. The need for quality assessment as an essential part of the KM requirements is illustrated with examples of current practices from different countries.
