Summary
The 500 kV Primavera substation, a critical node for energy transmission in Colombia, faced the challenge of replacing its busbar differential protection due to the high risk of failure of the existing equipment. Beyond the innovative technical solution—which enabled a sequential replacement while keeping critical functions 87B and 50BF operational and minimizing downtime-this project became a benchmark for knowledge management in protection and automation.
Read more Read lessA structured methodology was implemented to document every stage of the process, generating manuals, protocols, and a technical paper that preserve the knowledge created. Young professionals played an active role in design, testing, and commissioning, turning the project into a practical learning environment that strengthened skills in IEC 61850, digital testing, and advanced engineering practices. Collaboration with strategic suppliers ensured the consolidation of this strategy and its replicability for other critical assets.
This approach not only improved system reliability without increasing costs or resources but also transformed technical execution into an educational platform, fostering continuous learning and professional development. By aligning innovation with knowledge preservation and dissemination, the project contributes to the evolution of industry standards and supports the long-term objectives of PS1.
