Summary

The evolving complexity of the Brazilian power system, driven by increasing renewable penetration, distributed generation, and heightened uncertainty, demands a new outlook at areas that support real-time operation. Regarding Operating Procedures perspective, traditional static documentation and isolated processes are no longer sufficient to guarantee the required agility and consistency in decision-making. Moreover, advancements in digitalization offer opportunities to integrate operational guidance directly into supervisory systems, reducing reliance on structured manuals and enhancing situational awareness. At this scenario, training sessions should also be improved with modern, customized and technological approaches. To address these challenges, ONS Operating Procedures team developed a strategic roadmap focused on three pillars: role definition, process improvement, and technology-enabled transformation. Altogether these are paths to better serve real-time operators – the primary stakeholders of operational procedures. The roadmap involved a comprehensive review of existing practices, identification of gaps, and prioritization of actions to ensure alignment with future operational needs. This work aims to present a thorough discussion on the roadmap conception, prioritized topics, and course of actions that are being established to streamline the future of real-time operational guidance. This transformation positions ONS to deliver procedures, training and tools that are adaptive, integrated, and resilient, considering the energy and technology transition in course. By improving operating procedures expertise, ONS sets a benchmark for future-ready system operation in Brazil.
