Summary

Since 2014, RTE has integrated biomimetic principles and methodologies into its innovation framework to develop eco-designed solutions addressing technological and environmental challenges. A principal research focus centred on offshore infrastructure protection, specifically targeting sediment erosion mitigation at submarine cable installation sites.

The bio-inspired solutions underwent a systematic development process encompassing conceptual design, numerical modeling, and field-scale validation under operational marine conditions. Preliminary results demonstrated dual benefits under certain conditions: effective sediment erosion control and enhancement of local marine biodiversity, as presented at the

Third United Nations Ocean Conference held in Nice, France, in June 2025 [1], contributing to the broader discourse on nature inspired solutions for sustainable marine infrastructure development.
