(Affordable and Clean Energy), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and 13 (Climate
Action), identified as key performance indicators for electric power generation. Building on the work of CIGRE Working Group SC- C3.20, the analysis assesses how SDG integration has progressed over time and identifies the main drivers, barriers, and enabling conditions for accelerating implementation. Using quantitative and qualitative evidence from surveys conducted in 2020 and 2022, complemented by a 2024 data point, the paper highlights trends in corporate engagement, best practices, and gaps between potential and actual contributions.
The findings indicate that, while progress has been made, SDG alignment remains uneven across companies and regions and is increasingly shaped by regulatory and financial pressures rather than voluntary commitments alone. The paper concludes that accelerated, coordinated, and investment-driven action by the electric power sector is essential if the SDGs are to remain within reach by 2030.
