The paper describes the assessment of climate risks and the impact of climate change on the operations of Croatian Transmission System Operator with identified risk reduction measures.
Read more Read lessRisk assessment refers to hazards caused by climate and climate change after the implementation of adaptation measures to increase the capacity of infrastructure and business processes to the potential physical consequences of climate impacts. Maps of transmission assets on the whole territory of the Republic of Croatia were analysed, classified according to levels of vulnerability and/or risks associated with climate change, with the corresponding exposure and risk values in relation to climate scenarios in the short, medium and long term.
The analysis of the sensitivity of activities and assets to classified physical hazards brought about by climate change is described, as well as the analysis of the exposure of assets and activities at a location that is, or could be, affected by the adverse impact of relevant chronic and acute climate hazards brought about by climate change. The assessment of the vulnerability of activities and assets based on the function of sensitivity and exposure to physical hazard is given, which provides information on the extent to which the subject of the analysis is predisposed to the adverse impacts of climate change and reveals the most important climate variables suitable for risk assessment. The risk calculation is a structured analysis of the function of the probability of their occurrence and the strength of the impact on assets and activities associated with climate hazards identified in the vulnerability assessment under existing and future climate conditions for different climate scenarios.
