Summary
In modern power systems, the integration of power electronics, active loads and the use of battery chargers have led to a growing presence of harmonic distortion in voltage and current waveforms. This distortion can negatively impact the performance of protection, control, and measurement equipment, making it essential to monitor and control harmonic levels in highvoltage networks.
Read more Read lessThe IEC 61869-1:2023 Standard introduces extended accuracy classes for instrument transformers, conventional units and low-power current sensors and voltage dividers, establishing performance requirements for harmonic measurements. However, the Standard lacks a clearly defined testing methodology to verify compliance with these requirements.
Moreover, performing such tests at high voltage levels poses significant challenges due to the difficulty and cost of generating high-frequency, high-voltage signals under controlled conditions. This highlights the urgent need to define and standardize a practical and reproducible testing methodology.
To address this gap, a reference testing set-up for harmonic evaluation has been developed in the framework of the EURAMET projects 16ENG04 MyRailS [1] and 22NRM04 e-TRENY
[2]. These projects have received funding from the European Partnership on Metrology cofinanced by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program and by the Participating States.
