Summary
With the development of new-type power systems, heterogeneous flexibility resources such as pumped hydro storage stations (PHSSs), electrochemical storage stations (ESSs), and virtual power plants (VPPs) have experienced rapid growth. This paper focuses on the electricity market practice for integrating heterogeneous flexibility resources in Guangdong Province, which is a province in southern China and the country’s largest in economic scale.
Read more Read lessIn this paper, we first introduce the basic information of the Guangdong electricity market, mainly focusing on the market structure and the generalized market clearing model. Based on this cornerstone, we briefly introduce the bidding frameworks and modifications to the market clearing model for the market participation of PHSSs, ESSs, and VPPs to accurately map their heterogeneous physical characteristics. In addition, as an emerging market opportunity for flexibility resources, we share recent explorations of the market design for the ramping product in Guangdong. The implementation performance of new-type resources and ancillary services is evaluated through historical market results.
