Summary
This study explores the dynamics of bidding behavior in the Colombian electricity market through the application of the Residual Supply Index (RSI), with a particular focus on comparing two calculation methodologies: the one proposed by CREG in 2010 and the current methodology established by CREG Resolution 101_018 of 2023. The analysis assesses how each approach identifies pivotal suppliers and their ability to exercise market power, considering the effect of contracts and regulatory thresholds. The results enable a discussion of regulatory recommendations and provide tools to strengthen competition and transparency in the Colombian electricity sector. In conclusion, the analysis using the RSI not only offers an additional perspective for market monitoring but also serves as a foundation for designing policies that foster a more competitive environment. In this way, the efficiency and sustainability of the Colombian electricity sector are promoted.
