Summary
The question of material compatibility is as old as the electrical equipment itself.
Read more Read lessCompatibility of materials must be tested and evaluated according to the function of the instrument and of course in their interaction with the rest components. The operating temperature and the stresses play an important role as well. Additionally it shall be considered, that simple tests at worst case conditions or tests not designed for the corresponding material/insulating liquid may bring results which do not correspond to real conditions and so discard the usage of a material, which is actually fit for purpose. In lot of cases the general existing standards do not cover all requirements, therefore internal manufacturer specifications cover lot of grey fields.
