Read more Read lessIt was identified that information was being obtained by multiple processes and applications, there was a lack of clarity regarding roles and responsibilities for its administration, an absence of formal guidelines for data creation and updating, and a vision focused more on applications than on the data itself. Additionally, there was a lack of quality rules to validate attributes such as validity, consistency, and completeness, as well as the absence of systematic mechanisms to measure, monitor, and correct quality issues.
In response to this situation, it was launched in 2021 a program focused on two projects:
Information Governance and Data Quality, with the goal of defining and implementing a model that positioned data as a key strategic asset, aimed at maximizing its value, enhancing its quality, and mitigating information risks, enabling agile and reliable decision-making aligned with business objectives.
As a result, significant progress was achieved, such as data prioritization, the development of the catalog and information flows, the definition of roles and responsibilities, impact analysis in case of inconsistencies, the creation of guidelines and an internal consultation microsite, full coverage of master data for the core processes, and an increase in master data quality by 7%.
These achievements were made possible thanks to the effective integration of technology, processes, and organizational culture, supported by top management.
Currently, data governance and data quality are institutionalized processes at the Colombian operator, which has strengthened a collaborative culture that is aware of the strategic value of information. This demonstrates that data governance is not merely a technical initiative, but a strategic commitment that requires leadership, resources, and organizational engagement.
