Summary
A transformer is an apparatus that converts electrical power with exceptional efficiency. Despite this, transformers are, with lines and cables, among the top contributors to losses in electrical networks. As power efficiency is a strategic topic for CIGRE [1], Study Committee A2 prepared this paper to describe and discuss the different aspects of transformer efficiency and possible avenues that would allow improvement.
