Summary

The IEC 60071-1 presents an application guide for the selection of insulation levels of equipment or installations for three-phase electrical systems above 1 kV. But all the studies were made considering an outdoor condition. Nothing had been said about equipment that works inside four metal grounded walls. This paper presents a comparison between the results of power frequency and lightning impulse tests performed on several configurations like bar-plane, conductor-plane and rod-plane, with several types of tips, in an outdoor situation and in a metalclad situation, considering gaps from 5 cm to 50 cm, usual in metalclad assemblies. As metalclad assemblies frequently uses epoxy insulators, the test configuration was also evaluated considering IEC 60168 and the real possible configurations, both outdoor as inside four metallic walls, simulating a metalclad configuration.
