Summary
For indoor solutions large electrodes are used on top of equipment or arrangements of insulators and pedestal, to improve corona conditions and withstand extreme high overvoltage requirements. In this paper, an especial designed electrode is presented and compared with typical electrodes used on indoor applications such as spheres and double toroid. It is shown that the electrode called “mushroom-shaped high voltage electrode” provides high capability to withstand switching impulse overvoltages of the order of 2400kV and above within reasonable clearance distances. The behaviour of the electrode for competitive gaps between walls and floor is presented.
