Summary

The dielectric strength at the interface between polyethylene cables and silicon rubber termination depends on different parameters. One of these parameters is the pressure between them at the interface. The aim of this work is the determination of the dependency of the pressure at the interface between polyethylene and silicon on the dielectric strength. A model specimen is used in order to investigate the dielectric strength at the interface between polyethylene cables and silicon rubber termination or joint in a laboratory. The breakdown voltage tests have been done by alternative (AC) and standard impulse voltage. From the results of the investigations, the optimal pressure for achieving the highest dielectric strength at the interface between polyethylene and silicon rubber can be recommended.
