Summary

Very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO) is a broadband wave, whose frequency and amplitude are affected by gas insulated substation’s (GIS) internal structure, operation mode and other factors. On the basis of GIS busbar’s equivalent model and the Dommel transmission line model, considering the frequency dependent characteristics of the line parameters, the calculation expression of VFTO is derived. And the influence of different structural parameters to VFTO’s frequency amplitude characteristic is analysed by analytical method. The results show that the VFTO dominant frequency is reduced by increasing the circuit breaker fracture capacitance, the change of dominant frequency amplitude can be ignored, PT equivalent capacitance has no effect on the VFTO dominant frequency and the corresponding amplitude, the VFTO dominant frequency and the corresponding amplitude are reduced by increasing the length of the busbar.
