Summary
Earth Potential Rise occurring in underground systems during phase-to-earth faults should be considered when designing specially bonded systems. The most vulnerable cable systems are those connected to overhead lines and those connected into substations having high earthing impedances. Detailed calculation of EPR being complex, simplified methods are reported, which may be sufficient to detect potential problem systems, for internal (cable) and external faults.
