Summary

As power grids grow in scale and complexity, demand for power quality metering has surged.

Low-power instrument transformers (LPITs) with digital interface are ideally suited for modern

PQ applications, offering multifunctionality within a single device and flexible deployment.

However, the development and widespread market adoption of PQ meters with digital interface will take time.

The paper reviews requirements, technology and standardization needs for power quality metering using LPIT with digital, sampled value interfaces in transmission grids. We identify several gaps in current standards and propose possible improvement.
