Summary
The following three verification results are presented regarding the expansion of polymer matrix composite (hereinafter PMC) conductor applications in Japan.

The results of tensile strength tests at various high temperatures confirmed that the combination of PMC and ZTAL is feasible and that the cable possesses a high current-carrying capacity.
2. Vibration Characteristics: The vibration characteristics due to galloping and ice shedding of
PMC conductor were evaluated using formulas commonly used in Japan. Although PMC conductor tended to have slightly larger sleet jump height, even in the most severe case of 100% simultaneous ice shedding, the required vertical phase-to-phase clearance was maintained. This result confirms that the applicable span length of PMC conductor is equivalent to that of conventional conductors and no additional countermeasures are necessary. In the galloping study, as long as the span length exceeded a certain level, the vibration amplitude of PMC conductor was smaller than that of conventional conductors. Therefore, it is confirmed that no special countermeasures are required.
3. DC Arc Test: The DC arc test results confirmed that even with the amount of electric charge that melted all strands of a conventional ground wire, only the aluminum melted, while the
PMC core remained undamaged. It was determined that PMC conductor can be safely used as an overhead ground wire.
