Summary
This paper summarizes the results from the third R&D Consortium project driven by a group of 12 European companies. The overall aim of this paper is to provide optimal corrective maintenance procedures for composite insulators. In the first step practical recommendations on how to collect and analyse service experience in a standardized way to decide about any corrective maintenance actions were created. In the second step the most promising diagnostic technologies for health assessment of insulators were decided as IR, UV and visual inspection.

The final output of this work was the creation of a Maintenance Guide considering condition-based maintenance.
