Summary

Increasing electrification of society, PV penetration and resulting grid congestion necessitate flexible power system solutions. Key flexibility resources include Battery Energy Storage

Systems (BESS), PV systems, electric vehicles, and heat pumps, with BESS offering the most versatility through bidirectional energy flow.

The solution operates through two complementary mechanisms: prevention via day-ahead planning using linear programming to optimize device utilization based on DSO/TSO flexibility forecasts, generation predictions, and demand forecasts; and safeguarding through real-time

AIMD (Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease) algorithms that dynamically adjust power constraints based on live grid conditions monitored via Advanced Metering Infrastructure

(AMI).

Smart meters with edge computing capabilities form the system's core, enabling hybrid cloudedge processing for robust, responsive operation. The architecture supports integration with energy optimization strategies and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) for balancing services, delivering a comprehensive framework for managing grid congestion and ensuring system stability in modern energy landscapes.
