Summary

This paper emphasizes the importance of AMI infrastructure and its standardization in the utility industry's transformation towards a DSO concept, as well as its role in the customers digitization process and their participation in the system. Moreover, this article describes the collaborative work methodology implemented for developing and updating the NTC 6079 technical standard and the scope of its main components, including requirements for the system communication infrastructure and cybersecurity requirements for all system components.

Likewise, a review of the contributions of the NTC 6079 standard to interoperability (technical, syntactic, and semantic) is made. This review is based on the communication requirements and data exchange protocols recommended by the standard. Finally, it presents the impact that the

NTC 6079 standard has had at local and regional levels, as well as future work (updates) and the main lessons learned since its issuance.
