Summary

This article provides an overview of technical solutions, as well as the manufacturing and testing stages of a high-voltage cable transition joint for connecting cables with different insulation types: cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and oil-impregnated paper. Technical requirements are presented, based on the design and operating parameters of high-pressure fluid-filled (HPFF) cables. Testing requirements for the design were developed on this same basis, as well as on CIGRE recommendations. Design variants of the transition joint are presented, along with extensive illustrations of the joint's materials and components. Given the limited materials available for testing, technical solutions are proposed, including a cable simulator used to test the first versions of a paper-wound stress cone.
