CIGRE’s Green Books are recognised by the international engineering community as the world’s foremost technical reference publications in their fields.

They are self-contained handbooks covering the entire knowledge of a subject area in power engineering. As at May 2025 the Green Books Major Reference Works have been accepted for SCOPUS indexing. This will provide extensive reference and citation opportunities for the education sector.

Each Greenbook embodies a vast amount of real-world expertise distilled from our global community. It is the culmination of all the collective work of CIGRE Study Committees in their domains of work.

Multiple Technical Brochures, produced by Working Groups, are integrated into one definitive and comprehensive publication. It gives in-depth practical information for real world application, reflecting the state of the art, with best practices and standards presented.

In the past nine years, among the 17 Green Books published, 10 are Major Reference Works leading to over 2000+ books and 420,000 chapter downloads sold. In addition, some of them are translated into Chinese and Korean, leading to another 5,600+ books sold.
